Emcore Corporation’s new design, Generation III, is scheduled to be in volume production by the second half of calendar year 2009.
John M. Iannelli, chief technology officer, Emcore Corporation told CPVToday.com that engineering prototypes of the entire array have been constructed and are currently under test in its Albuquerque, NM test facility.
“Initial data on costs and performance are very positive,” said Iannelli.
Late last year, the company, which offers CPV systems for utility scale solar applications as well as its high-efficiency GaAs solar cells and CPV components for use in solar power concentrator systems, was trying to accelerate the development and production of the next-Gen (Gen-III) low-cost system for large-volume deployment. (It was indicated that Gen-III’s hardware cost target is $1.75/Watt).
Emcore had also mentioned that it had responded to several RFPs from public utility companies using Gen-III products as its baseline.
