OPEL activates a 9.5 kW grid tied solar installation
25 November 2008
OPEL International has installed and activated a 9.5 kW grid tied solar installation at The Sports Zone in Trumbull, CT.The solar installation is a complete, turnkey system that features OPEL's Mk-I high concentration photovoltaic panels (HCPV), along with OPEL's Mk-III low concentration photovoltaic panels (LCPV); all are mounted on OPEL's SF-20 dual axis tracker systems.
The company says its high performance photovoltaic concentrating panels generate up to 40 percent more kilowatt-hours than conventional flat plate silicon solar panels, resulting in more cost effective electricity generated from the sun.
On the development, Robert Malton, manager - business development, OPEL International said that OPEL is in the position to be the first solar manufacturer to provide the State of Connecticut with a fully-operational solar site using OPEL's tracker mounted system design.
"This is also the first commercial solar installation in the Town of Trumbull and will help them to meet their alternative energy goals," said Malton.
Malton added, "A sun tracker mounted system captures significantly more solar energy because the solar panels can follow the sun's path throughout the day versus remain fixed horizontally. Therefore, this installation will allow The Sports Zone to reduce its electric bill by approximately 30 percent through the use of a totally Green source, and OPEL's products will make a huge impact on their utility needs over the next 20 years. For OPEL, we have an operational site generating electric power that we can bring customers and investors to see, highlighting our product offerings."
