Santa Clara County supervisor Dave Cortese is seeking a vote authorising county staff to pursue possible sites for the solar project.
Cortese, according to mercurynews.com, is asking his fellow board members to consider a major solar installation on Santa Clara County lands.
As per the same report, Cortese mentioned that SolFocus has determined that the county’s entire energy bill could be offset by a plant on 300 acres. Theoretically, the installation could harness even more of the sun’s energy, resulting in profitable sales back to the state’s utility grid.
It has also been indicated that Cortese is asking staff to develop an inventory of potential locations for solar power plants and facilities. He suggested various locations, including the regional three airports — in San Jose, Palo Alto and San Martin — county lands and regional parks. And, according to local media, he has also spoken to several companies including SolFocus.
