SolFocus expands its solar glass reflector manufacturing factory

SolFocus has completed the expansion of its solar glass reflector manufacturing factory in Mesa, Arizona.
The expanded factory will open immediately with full production expected in the second half of 2009.
The SolFocus Glassworks facility will have the capacity to produce two million concentrating reflectors annually for 30 MW of solar power generation. With this expansion, the plant’s capacity has increased by over 15 times over the last year.
According to the company, from an industry perspective, the demand that drove this expansion signals the transition of CPV from the research and development stage to commercialisation.
The company plans to utilise the 30 percent manufacturing investment tax credit, as set forth in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
The original factory opened in December 2007 with 50 employees and produced 45,000 mirrors in 2008. The company expects to have over 150 full-time employees by the end of this year, which would be a 200 percent increment over the previous year.
