Soliant opens pilot production facility

Soliant Energy has opened its new pilot production facility. Located in Monrovia, California, the facility is capable of producing 1 MW of solar panels annually.


The pilot production line will enable the company to plan out equipment and process needs for full-scale production scheduled for 2010. It will add up to 40 new staff.

Emcore identifies areas of improvement

Emcore has identified that it has to work on its product design and manufacturing cost in order to combat rival technologies.

CPV could reach grid parity by 2011

According to a new report entitled “The CPV Challenge (Part I): Achieving Grid Parity”, written by the University of Jaen (Spain) and CPV today, CPV could reach grid parity between 2011 and 2015 in places with high levels of solar irradiance. Efficiency increases in both cells and optics will be instrumental in bringing about significant cost reductions.

IQE ties up with QinetiQ

IQE plc has shared that its Milton Keynes based wafer operation, Wafer Technology Ltd., will lead a collaborative effort to develop thermo-photovoltaic (TPV) cells.
 
The £2m project has been awarded by the Technology Strategy Board. Wafer Technology will lead a consortium of partners including Lancaster University and QinetiQ.
